Undergraduate Scholarship Information
We are pleased to announce that all undergraduate students who apply for admission for the Fall semester, and who met the minimum scholarship requirements, will be automatically considered for a merit-based scholarship.
You will no longer have to complete a separate scholarship application or submit an essay and letter of recommendation. The following documents will need to be submitted by each student to the Office of Admissions for full consideration:
- Complete Application for Admission (with $40 application fee)
- Official ACT or SAT scores
- Official High School Transcripts (or college transcripts if a transfer student)
- Admission applications should be post-marked no later than January 15 to ensure full consideration
- Notification of awards will be mailed on a rolling basis
- You must accept or decline your award no later than 30 days from receipt of the scholarship award letter. If you would like an extension until May 1st, send a written request to the Coordinator of Scholarships, Office of Student Financial Aid, UNO, New Orleans, LA 70148. A request for an extension will not jeopardize your status for Financial Aid.

The Federal Tax Reform Act of 1986 significantly changed the tax status of scholarships, fellowships, and grants you receive form the university. Prior to the Act, they were generally not subject to income tax. Since then, scholarships, fellowships, and grant amounts exceeding tuition, fees, and course-related books, supplies, and equipment have become taxable.
