"CREDIT WHERE CREDIT IS DUE"

(Unconventional Means of Earning College Credit)

Page 1 2 >>

Looking for ways to earn college credit in a particular area without spending a semester in the classroom? If you have the knowledge, UNO offers you several options to earn the credit without taking the course. How? Read on for the details.

College Level Examination Program (CLEP)

The College Level Examination Program (CLEP) is a national, standardized testing program. CLEP measures knowledge you have attained outside a formal educational setting and offers you the chance to obtain college credit by examination. If you took honors courses in high school, studied independently through non-credit courses, or gained experience through on-the-job training, you may be able to earn equivalent credit for some basic UNO requirements by passing one or more CLEP tests.

There are two types of CLEP Exams-General and Subject. UNO accepts only the Subject exams. Each 90-minute, multiple-choice Subject exam is comparable to a final exam in the course; some exams include a separate 90-minute essay as well. Of the 30 Subject exams offered, UNO considers 21 for credit. A list of acceptable exams, minimum passing scores, and UNO equivalent courses follows. Additional tests may be added at a later date, so check with the Office of Admissions if your test is not listed.
